Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night (Psalm 1:1-2).

As we think about this past week’s Fighter Verses, the first thing we might do is say, “do I love sinful ways or do I love the Bible?” But this passage runs deeper. Many call Psalm 1 the Gatekeeper of the psalms, and this psalm is actually connected with Psalm 2. What you find in Psalm 2 is that the whole world is sinful, and by the time you get to the end of Psalm 2, you read, “Kiss the Son, lest he be angry.” Meaning, the whole world needs to turn to the Anointed One, the Messiah, God’s Son.

In actuality, if we recognize our sinfulness – that left to ourselves, we’re scoffers, sinners, scornful – and if we turn to Jesus as our only hope for life, then we can follow in his steps. Because of him, our hearts are transformed. Have you experienced that change of heart?

Do you gather with the believers because you want to worship God? Do you delight in the Word of God? If so, then these desires came from God Himself! And that should bolster your praise even today. Praise God that you want to praise Him! Because of the Blessed Man, Jesus, you now are a blessed child of God!
