We are only about a week away from Christmas! Our worship services have had various Christmas songs. The sermons have been Advent-related. And then we come to our Fighter Verses, and we have 1 Timothy 4:12, “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.” What does that have to do with Christmas? Well, in its context, Paul isn’t talking about Jesus’ birth. But, Jesus coming in the flesh has everything to do with everything. Jesus, through his obedient life and death, gave us his righteousness, but he also took the right to then send us the Holy Spirit so that we could obey in the flesh as well. So, when Paul talks to Timothy about being an example, he is basing it in the fact that Jesus has set him free to live this way. And the same is true for us. Whether you feel you’ve been battling against sin or you’ve been rather encouraged in your growth recently, rejoice that Jesus came in the flesh to empower you to honor him in the flesh!
